Why two identical-looking Suzukis take different coilovers
Strip away the catalogue language and what you are actually choosing between here is whether to replace only the component that has failed or refresh the whole corner, because everything bolted alongside a worn damper has covered exactly the same distance over exactly the same roads.
South African road surfaces are harsher on suspension than the conditions these cars were originally calibrated for, and Suzuki's lighter kerb weights mean components are sized closer to the limit. The Jimny is its own case entirely: enough of them have been lifted or re-shod that standard-height parts are the wrong answer more often than not.
So we price coilovers against your specific car, not against a badge. Send through the generation or year, and — if it is a Jimny or a 4x4 derivative — whether the suspension is standard or has been modified, and we will come back to you on what fits , what it will cost, and how soon we can have it moving.
Coilovers, explained
A coilover puts the spring and the damper in one adjustable unit, usually on a threaded body so ride height can be set, and on better sets with adjustable damping too. It is an aftermarket fitment on a Suzuki rather than a factory part, and on our roads that matters, because a set wound right down looks good and finds every pothole in Pretoria.

What customers ask about coilovers
What decides which coilovers fits my Suzuki?
South African road surfaces are harsher on suspension than the conditions these cars were originally calibrated for, and Suzuki's lighter kerb weights mean components are sized closer to the limit. The Jimny is its own case entirely: enough of them have been lifted or re-shod that standard-height parts are the wrong answer more often than not. In practice the decision in front of you is whether to replace only the component that has failed or refresh the whole corner, because everything bolted alongside a worn damper has covered exactly the same distance over exactly the same roads.
What do you need from me to quote coilovers?
The generation or year, and — if it is a Jimny or a 4x4 derivative — whether the suspension is standard or has been modified. With that we can usually confirm the right part quickly, and we'll tell you whether we're quoting new, aftermarket or good used rather than leaving you to guess.
Are coilovers a good idea on South African roads?
They can be, if you buy for ride quality rather than for stance. A quality adjustable set at a sensible height with the damping wound off gives a Swift better body control without ruining the ride. A cheap set slammed to the arch destroys bushes, catches the sump on driveway ramps and makes the car unpleasant anywhere outside a city centre.
Will lowering the car fail a roadworthy?
Ride height on its own is not what an inspector measures, but the consequences of it are. Tyres fouling the arch, a leaking or damaged damper, a bump stop removed and steering geometry pushed outside its range are all failure points, and headlamp aim thrown off by a height change is another. Anything worn or leaking will be picked up regardless.
Do I need an alignment afterwards?
Always. Changing ride height changes camber, toe and caster, and driving away without setting them is how a new set of tyres is destroyed in a few thousand kilometres. Book the alignment as part of the same job rather than leaving it for later.
Can I fit coilovers to a Jimny?
The Jimny is a different animal. It is a ladder-frame 4x4 on live axles running separate coil springs and dampers, not the strut arrangement used at the front of a Swift or a Baleno. Kits do exist for it, but they are lift kits and suspension packages rather than the threaded-body coilovers sold for hatchbacks.
What about just replacing the standard struts?
For most owners that is the better answer. A fresh set of standard-height struts and springs restores the ride the car left the factory with and there is far less to go wrong afterwards. Tell us the derivative and the kind of ride you are after and we will point you at the right option.

Send the VIN — we'll find the coilovers
The generation or year, and — if it is a Jimny or a 4x4 derivative — whether the suspension is standard or has been modified is all we need. We cross-reference it against what we can source and come back with what fits.
