Why two identical-looking Suzukis take different left front door
- What you are really deciding
- Whether a straight second-hand panel beats a new aftermarket one once prep, paint and fitting are added to both quotes rather than just the part price.
- Where Suzuki differs
- Suzuki has reused names across unrelated vehicles here more than most marques β the Grand Vitara covers a ladder-frame SUV and a modern crossover, the Brezza was sold under two names, and the Swift spans four generations. Body panels are where that bites hardest, because the badge is identical and the metal is not. We source against the generation code, never the name.
- Where the car was built
- Something worth knowing about this marque in particular: a large share of the Suzuki range sold in South Africa is built by Maruti Suzuki in India, while the Jimny comes out of Japan. Cars that look the same on the road can therefore sit on different supply chains, which is one reason we would rather check than assume.
- What to send us
- The year, the derivative and the paint code off the VIN plate, plus a photograph of the damage. With that in front of us we can normally settle the right left front door without a back-and-forth.
Left Front Door, explained
On a right-hand-drive South African car the left front door is the passenger door, and that is the kerb side. It collects damage that has nothing to do with driving: gate pillars, pavement kerbs, trolleys in a parking bay, somebody else opening theirs into yours at a shopping centre. A door is a bolt-on assembly of shell, hinges, glass, regulator, lock, mirror and trim, so a straight second-hand one from a matching donor is often a cleaner repair than beating out a deep crease.
What matters at the ordering stage is what actually comes with it. Some doors are sold as a bare shell and some complete. Model, year and body style all change the shape and the wiring, and the paint will be a used car's paint rather than a fresh match. Check the hinge pillar and the bottom seam for rust before you commit, because that is where a door rots from first.

Before you order Suzuki left front door
What decides which left front door fits my Suzuki?
Suzuki has reused names across unrelated vehicles here more than most marques β the Grand Vitara covers a ladder-frame SUV and a modern crossover, the Brezza was sold under two names, and the Swift spans four generations. Body panels are where that bites hardest, because the badge is identical and the metal is not. We source against the generation code, never the name. In practice the decision in front of you is whether a straight second-hand panel beats a new aftermarket one once prep, paint and fitting are added to both quotes rather than just the part price.
What do you need from me to quote left front door?
The year, the derivative and the paint code off the VIN plate, plus a photograph of the damage. With that we can usually confirm the right part quickly, and we'll tell you whether we're quoting new, aftermarket or good used rather than leaving you to guess.
Used door or repair the one on the car?
Shallow damage in a flat area is straightforward to repair. Once the crease crosses a body line, or the skin has torn at the edge, the hours mount up quickly and a straight donor door works out better. A panel beater who can see both will give you a straight answer in five minutes.
Does it include the glass, regulator, lock and mirror?
Not automatically, and it varies with how the donor was broken up. A complete door saves you sourcing a regulator separately later, which is worth paying for. Confirm the contents in writing before anything is loaded, rather than discovering the shell is empty when it arrives.
How close will the colour be?
It arrives in a genuine factory colour that has aged in the sun for as long as the donor was on the road, so a perfect match straight off is unlikely. Beaters normally blend into the adjoining panels. The colour plate sits on the driver door pillar on most Suzukis, in the engine bay on some such as the Jimny, and a dealer can retrieve it from the VIN.
Can a door from another Suzuki model fit?
No, and even within one model you have to be careful, since a three-door and a five-door have entirely different front doors and a facelift can change the mirror mounting and the wiring plug. Send the VIN through and we can pin it to the exact build.
What should I inspect before buying a used door?
Look along the bottom seam and the hinge pillar for rust, sight down the door to check it is not twisted, make sure the wiring plug is intact rather than cut off, and wind the window fully up and down. Photographs with the trim panel removed tell you more than photographs of the outside ever will.
