The questions we ask before we price trunk/tailgate
- What you are really deciding
- Whether a straight second-hand panel beats a new aftermarket one once prep, paint and fitting are added to both quotes rather than just the part price.
- Where Suzuki differs
- Suzuki has reused names across unrelated vehicles here more than most marques β the Grand Vitara covers a ladder-frame SUV and a modern crossover, the Brezza was sold under two names, and the Swift spans four generations. Body panels are where that bites hardest, because the badge is identical and the metal is not. We source against the generation code, never the name.
- Where the car was built
- Something worth knowing about this marque in particular: a large share of the Suzuki range sold in South Africa is built by Maruti Suzuki in India, while the Jimny comes out of Japan. Cars that look the same on the road can therefore sit on different supply chains, which is one reason we would rather check than assume.
- What to send us
- The year, the derivative and the paint code off the VIN plate, plus a photograph of the damage. With that in front of us we can normally settle the right trunk/tailgate without a back-and-forth.
Trunk/Tailgate, explained
A boot lid on the Dzire, a top-hinged tailgate on the Swift, Baleno and Ignis, and on the Jimny a side-hinged rear door carrying the full-size spare wheel. They are different parts with different hinges, struts and latches, so the body style matters far more here than the engine under the bonnet does.

Recognise any of that? Tell us the model and year and we will go and check what we can get hold of for you.
What customers ask about trunk/tailgate
What decides which trunk/tailgate fits my Suzuki?
Suzuki has reused names across unrelated vehicles here more than most marques β the Grand Vitara covers a ladder-frame SUV and a modern crossover, the Brezza was sold under two names, and the Swift spans four generations. Body panels are where that bites hardest, because the badge is identical and the metal is not. We source against the generation code, never the name. In practice the decision in front of you is whether a straight second-hand panel beats a new aftermarket one once prep, paint and fitting are added to both quotes rather than just the part price.
What do you need from me to quote trunk/tailgate?
The year, the derivative and the paint code off the VIN plate, plus a photograph of the damage. With that we can usually confirm the right part quickly, and we'll tell you whether we're quoting new, aftermarket or good used rather than leaving you to guess.
Does a used tailgate come with the glass and wiper?
It depends on how it was removed and what you agree beforehand. Some come as a bare shell, some complete with glass, wiper motor, latch, lock barrel and loom. Say up front what you need included, because the wiper motor and the loom are often more awkward to source separately than the panel itself.
Will the colour match?
Only if the paint code matches, and even then a panel off a car that has stood in the sun will not be an exact match to one that has been garaged. Get the paint code from the plate in the door aperture or the engine bay. Most people fitting a used tailgate have a panel beater blow it over, which is worth budgeting for.
Why does the Jimny rear door need different parts?
Because it is a side-hinged door rather than a top-hinged tailgate, and it carries the full-size spare wheel on its outer face. That weight loads the hinges and the striker every time the door swings, so hinge wear and a sagging door are far more common on a Jimny than on a hatchback, and none of the parts interchange with the rest of the range.
Can a sagging tailgate be adjusted rather than replaced?
Often, yes. The hinges and the striker have some adjustment, and a door that catches on one side is frequently a striker set slightly wrong rather than a bent panel. Loosen, align to even gaps against the rear quarters, then retighten. If the shut line is out because the aperture itself is distorted from an impact, that is a body shop job and no amount of adjustment will hide it.
Are gas struts sold in pairs?
They are normally replaced in pairs, because they fade together and one strong strut working against one weak one twists the panel every time it opens. Some designs are also handed. Give us the model and year and we will confirm which strut your body style takes.

Where we send trunk/tailgate
The identification work is the same wherever the car is β only the last leg differs.
Send the VIN β we'll find the trunk/tailgate
The year, the derivative and the paint code off the VIN plate, plus a photograph of the damage is all we need. We cross-reference it against what we can source and come back with what fits.
