Replacing a Boosterjet Turbo on a Suzuki
Turbochargers are a narrower subject on Suzuki than on most makes, because only the Boosterjet petrol engines are turbocharged — everything else in the local range breathes naturally. So the first question is simply whether your car is a Boosterjet at all: the 1.4 in the Swift Sport and the turbocharged Vitara, or the 1.0 three-cylinder. Which Boosterjet variants were offered differed from market to market, which is why the code on the block is the deciding evidence rather than the badge on the tailgate.
The second thing worth understanding is that a failed turbo is usually a symptom of something else. On these petrol units the common culprits are a restricted oil feed, service intervals stretched too far, and heat soak from shutting the engine down straight after a hard run. Fitting a replacement turbo onto the same starved oil feed will destroy it, so budget for fresh feed and return pipework and an oil change as part of the job rather than as an optional extra. If the turbo let go and sent debris downstream, ask us about the catalytic converter too, and if the failure came with heavy oil consumption get us to look at a replacement engine before you spend on the turbo alone.
